Usefulness

For far too long, I believe people have been trying to be happy; yet instead, they should concentrate on being useful.

Can a person really be happy? Going on vacation, going to work (on a job you love), going shopping, buying things, etc., are things we consume and experience.

However, those things can make you happy, but they are not useful.

Finding yourself useful means helping others and contributing to some cause.

This is what gives us purpose in life.

So, instead of trying to be happy in life, try being useful.

  • Take responsibility for something that’s NOT your responsibility.
  • Take a family or friend out to lunch or dinner (someone who has had some troubling situation or circumstances). Be that shoulder to lean on or lend an ear and listen so that the person feels like they are being heard.
  • Start a blog and write about the stuff you’ve experienced in life.
  • Help young teenagers with their school work.
  • Cook for family and friends.

Those are just a few useful things, and if done every day can add up to a well-lived life. Essentially, a life that matters.

Bottom line, the last thing I want is to lay on my deathbed and have no evidence that I ever existed.

Being useful is a mindset.

Don’t overthink it or take it too seriously; just decide to do something. Anything.
