Being a Leader is a Privilege!

Being a leader is a privilege. People choose whether to follow you, yet, why should anyone follow you? This is a question where my values and principles are on display, where I hold myself accountable and take extreme ownership of my shortcomings to improve myself daily. Leadership is a privilege that carries with it the responsibility to inspire others and to direct others to attain the vision and goals of the organization. I want to earn the trust and respect of every individual in my organization, where I can leave a legacy of creating a healthy, cheerful, and productive work environment.

Leading by example is something I live by in my personal and professional life. I believe in this leadership model because, throughout my 20+ years in the military and law enforcement, I have always worked to develop and modify policies and procedures to assist leaders and subordinates in achieving high-performance standards. I maintain high standards and get the results required to advance whatever I am working toward; teamwork makes the dream possible. Leading by example plays a substantial role in preparing the people I coach, teach and mentor for a future that will inevitably include strategies to advance any organization’s mission and vision.

Leadership influences people by providing purpose, direction, and motivation to accomplish the mission and improve the organization. Besides, everyone must lead by example to ensure the support of subordinates and colleagues. This means being the first to do the hard work without reservation or complaint, yet no matter how eloquent our words are as leaders, we can only influence people or capture people’s hearts if actions accompany words.

Leading by example, I push my organization towards excellence while actively demonstrating that excellence. I must always model the behaviors I want to see in my subordinates’ leaders and colleagues. My leadership role and responsibilities are leading, developing, and achieving while maintaining humility and creating an environment where employees feel safe and respected.

As a leader, my vision is to create an atmosphere and environment where my students have a better chance of success in their personal and professional lives because of my leadership. I provided the guidance, mentor-ship, and teaching needed for them to be the best they could be now and in the future.
